Post-Adoption Services

Our Post-Adoptive Services employ a holistic and family-centered approach to ensure that children who achieve permanency through adoption are safe, supervised, and receive the care needed for continued well-being and healthy development. Our work with both pre- and post-adoptive families helps to reduce the number of pre-adoption disruptions, reduce the number of post-finalization dissolutions, and reduce the need for foster care placement of children once they have been permanently adopted. SVS’s caring, professional staff work closely with the adoptive family to develop a detailed post-adoption plan to provide the educational, mental health and other supports the adoptive family and child will need. This program receives baseline funding through New York State, however additional funds are urgently needed in order to provide enhanced supports to young people (particularly older adolescents) and their pre- and post-adoptive families who are facing adjustment issues related to the adoption process. Providing our adoptive families with a year of comprehensive programs and activities (including Parent Support Groups, Respite/Crisis Intervention, and other support services) will cost $200,000.
