Pathways to the American Dream
SVS is pleased to announce the launch of the Pathways to the American Dream, or "PAD," Program. Designed to improve academic outcomes for our young people in their high school years, PAD will provide fifty SVS youth in their freshman, sophomore, and junior years with a year-round program of academic enrichment, remediation, and support.
PAD is a standards-based enrichment program designed to help our young people advance academically and achieve their educational and career goals. Activities include: a psycho-educational assessment and the creation of an Individual Academic Plan (IAP) for each young person; tutoring; homework help; standardized test prep (including PSAT/SAT and Regents); group building exercises; college prep/career readiness activities; and field trips to cultural/scientific/historic destinations throughout New York City.
PAD sessions will meet twice per week after school during the school year, as well as on Saturdays. Program activities will take place in the new "PAD" clubhouse at 228 State Street and in the newly-renovated Youth Leadership Academy (YLA).
At SVS we believe in our youth, and are convinced that with the right tools they will succeed academically and be able to "climb the mountain" to high school graduation, post-secondary education, and a satisfying career. We hope you will join us in this effort!
Study Shows SVS Youth Thrive as Young Adults
One of the first outside research studies ever done of any foster care program showed that SVS American Dream graduates out-performed both other children of foster care and a random sample of American youth. SVS President & CEO Msgr. Robert Harris said, "We were so thrilled to see the results of this study, which confirmed what we already know-SVS does a good job preparing our kids to be successful, mature, happy, and productive adults."
