Foster Family and Adoptive Services

St. Vincent's Services' foster home program provides loving homes and support to 650 neglected and abused boys and girls. The program ensures that each child is given individual attention and encouragement through counseling, medical care and educational help. Our staff works diligently with the natural parents to help them overcome their problems. If that proves impossible, SVS places the children with sensitive foster families who will provide them with a stable and nurturing home.

Our agency has been successful in meeting New York City's mandate for finding permanent adoptive homes for children who reunited with their natural parents within one year. We at SVS are proud to consistently receive the rating of "outstanding" by the Agency for Children's Services (ACS) for successfully placing an average of 100 children in permanent adoptive homes annually.

St. Vincent's Services offers post-adoption family services to help pre- and post-adoptive families succeed and cope with their unique challenges and issues. These families can also enroll their natural and adoptive children in our educational programs.

In 2000 SVS launched our innovative Specialized Preventive Services initiative - a community-based program funded in part by ACS that provides a host of services to families and children in order to prevent foster care placement when possible. Our services are geared towards families where there is a child at risk, who has a special medical condition or developmental disability.

Supportive Housing Program

SVS launched its supportive housing initiative in 2007. The program serves 20 adult clients referred to us from local hospitals who struggle with substance abuse, mental health issues and/or developmental disabilities. Residents are linked to support services, such as mental health and drug treatment programs, to help them become self-sufficient.
